Pullet-Shut Automatic Chicken Door Patent Pending Installation Tools: Drill, ¼” drill bit, saw, crescent wrench, Phillips-head screwdriver 1. Note any opening doors or other objects that would interfere with the door and avoid them.   2. Connect door to battery by connecting the red wire to the red terminal marked as (+) commonly known as  the positive terminal, and connect the other wire to the black terminal marked (-) commonly known as the  negative terminal.  3.  Door must be open to install.  DO NOT PRY THE DOOR OPEN.  See programming instructions.  4. With the door open and positioned with the control box on top, hold the door against the coop where you  want it.  Use the inside doorframe as a guide to draw the outline to cut your opening.  The opening will be  11” wide by 15” tall.  Cut the opening.  Now hold the door against the opening you just cut and mark where  the top left bolt goes.  Set the door aside and drill out a ¼” hole.  Now insert the door again and put a bolt  through the first hole and mark the other 3 holes.  Set the door aside and drill 3 more ¼” holes.  Now you  can install the door with all 4 bolts.  The head of the bolt goes outside and the washer and nut go inside the  coop.  The door is designed to open outward for best protection.  5. Next route the power cable to the door.  One method is to drill a hole next to the door and push the wires  inside the coop.  Run the wire up the wall to a small shelf to place the battery (you do not want chickens  roosting on the battery).  6. If you have larger animals build a stop vertical wall (piece of plywood or such).  When opening the door, set  it to open against the stop wall.  This will prevent damage from the animals pushing the door.  7. A small awning over the door may prevent ice build up in cold climates.    Store magnet away from black control box Programming the Door 1. Make sure your 12 volt battery is charged prior to use.  2.  Connect to trickle charger and battery or to solar panel and battery per instructions, or connect door  to battery by connecting the red wire to the red terminal marked as (+) commonly known as the positive  terminal, and connect the other wire to the black terminal marked (-) commonly known as the negative  terminal.  3. Once the door is connected to the battery the door will open about 4” and close.  Now you are ready to  program your opening time.  4. On the first morning, go out to the coop at the time you want the door to open.  Hold the magnet (red plastic  piece) on the red circle located on the control (black) box.  Once the door begins to open, hold the magnet in  that spot until the door is open as far as you would like.  Then remove the magnet.  Do not open the door to  the point that it presses on the frame.    5. On the first evening, return back to the coop at the time that you want the door to close.  Hold the magnet on  the red circle located on the control box until the door begins to close.  Once the door begins to close, you  may remove the magnet, as it will continue to a full close. *    6. You have now completed programming the door.  The door will open and close at the times you have set  every day.  * The Second Chance: After the door closes for the evening, one minute   later, the door will open again for 10 seconds and then close.  This is a safety feature of the door that allows  any birds that didn’t make it in to be able to do so.  Open and Close of Door (other than programmed times) – Anytime you want the door to open or close after  you have programmed the opening and closing times, just place the magnet (red plastic piece) over the red  circle located on the control (black) box for a moment.  Once the door begins to move, remove the magnet.  The  unit knows if it was opened or closed and will only move in the opposite direction.  You can do this as many  times as you would like, and it will never change the programmed opening and closing times.  Power Loss – In the event your door loses power, the unit will lose its program and will need to be re-  programmed.  Begin at step 3 under “Programming the Door.”  Changing Programming Times/ Resetting Door – You must erase the existing program in order to change  the programming times or to reset the door.  This may be accomplished in two different ways.  You may either  (1) disconnect the power to the door for 5 seconds and then re-connect the power, or (2) you may hold the  magnet (red plastic piece) on the red circle located on the control (black) box for 20 seconds.  You will know the  door is ready to be re-programmed when it opens slightly and then closes.  Now you are ready to re-program  following the programming steps 4 through 6.    Maintenance  Twice a year apply just a touch of grease to the bottom pivot point.  Check the battery voltage regularly.  Contact Info  Nopec                          (512) 995-0058 769 Lovers Lane                                               sales@chickendoors.com Lockhart, TX  78644                                             www.chickendoors.com Notes  This unit is intended for automated chicken pen doors.  This product is not to be used for purposes other than  intended.  If the product is damaged or not working properly, it should be removed until it can be repaired or  replaced.  It is not intended for anything other than small fowl.  It is water resistant, but not water proof.  Normal  rain or hosing will not affect its performance.  This unit does not prevent other animals from entering when it is  open.  Limited Liability Warranty.    Troubleshooting      Door doesn’t work.  Check the power connections. (see programming the door steps 1 through 3.)  The  red wire should be connected to positive 12 volts and the other wire should connect to negative.  If these are  reversed the door will not be damaged, but it will not operate.  When power is applied, the door will do a  short open and close cycle to indicate it is working properly.    Door behaves erratically. This can look like several failures including if the unit resets and loses its  settings, if the door doesn’t fully open or close, or if it opens/closes at un-programmed times.  Most often this  is due to an unreliable power source.  This can be a dying battery, low voltage, or bad electrical contacts.   First, check the battery voltage with a voltmeter.  If the battery is below 12 volts, it will not operate properly.   Second, clean the electrical contacts.  If it still has trouble, call us at (512) 995-0058.   This door is not  designed to operate without a battery.  While the door will operate with an AC adapter excluding the battery,  this is not considered a reliable power source.      Door barely opens.  On the initial program, the door opens a small amount rather than fully opens.  The  problem is that the magnet was not held long enough on the red circle to completely open.  You must reset  the door and start over.  Refer to Changing Programming Times/ Resetting Door.       The door doesn’t open as far as it should.  This is likely caused by a weak battery. It may also be  something hindering the door, or something in the bottom pivot point.  First, check the battery voltage with a  voltmeter.  Then check that the door right next to the hinge to make sure that the door isn’t hitting the wall  frame of the coop.  If that isn’t the problem, the bottom pivot point may be clogged.  Remove the screw at  the bottom pivot point, and push the door over enough to pull out the bottom pivot.  Clean and reassemble.     Lost magnet.  Refrigerator magnets are not normally strong enough to operate the door.  You can order  additional magnets on the Products page.    Home of the Pullet-Shut Automatic Chicken Door!
